Windows 8 on sony vaio help please finding software

I purchased said laptop over a year ago now and really cant get to grips with it. However i have decided to load some software onto it to use souly on the vaio pc.
My question is where do i find the software ?
I popped the disc in the drive and it made all the right noises but i have no idea where to look

Guidance much appreciated.

Try going to File Explorer on the apps page if you are looking for the cd drive.
You will see C drive and DVD RW drive clicking (try right and left clicking one should work) on the dvd drive that should open the installation disc.

If the installation went through the program should also show up on the apps page with "new" against it.

Off up the wooden hill now will check back in the morning to see any progress
