Our old but reliable Worcester 9.24 boiler has suddenly started needing the water to be topped up every day. There are no obvious leaks anywhere. Can anyone please offer any suggestions? Thanks

Hi

Thanks for the suggestion. When husband gets back from work he will have a look. One other thing. The heating has just been put on and the pressure was a 1.25 but since going on it has risen to 2.25 does this help with diagnosis?

Thanks again

Its a fairly hefty jump that, and it could indicate that the expansion vessel in the boiler needs recharging with air...it won't cause the water leak though. If its not the PRV the next thing to look at is the automatic air vent - but if its a daily top up I doubt it.

is this a constant cycle now, does the boiler get topped up, then when water heated up inside, pressure go down to 0 again?? and so on..... if so probably expanion vessel problem (charge lost over time, or a few other things wrong with it). check the prv outside when the heating is on and the pressure gauge rises.

Hi

Husband has checked the PRV and it is leaking and there is a stain down the wall outside. The pressure is now up to 3.

Suggestions please.

Many thanks

Pressure is up to 3?? So when boiler is on, the gauge rises to 3 bar at the PRV blows off and water escapes the pipe outside.

Is this correct?

After this process does the gauge then read 0 (boiler stop firing)?

Hi stevedarby

Yes the pressure is up to 3 or just under when the boiler is on then when we turn it off the pressure drops very low, so far the lowest has been just above 0.

Thanks
