out washing machine has gone to washing machine heaven, money being tight were opting for a washer (from asda) than a washer dryer.

on the specifications it states "Hard Wiring Needed - Yes"

what does this mean exactly?

I think "hard wiring" means wiring directly into a fused switch unit, rather than the conventional way of wiring to a plug and inserting the plug into a wall socket.

But using a plug should be fine AFAIK.

If you're hard wiring, the connection is permanent. There is no plug and no socket.

Maybe it's a safety feature, to avoid any water getting in the electrical socket?
