Hi everyone I have recently towed my caravan on Holliday with my 2005 sharan 1.9 tdi 130 and when climbing any hills I get what seems to be a misfire and when I ease off the accelerator it improves until I accelerate again I know the car is very low geared but concerned about the misfire has any one had this problem and how to sort it out, is it built in to indicate the strain on the engine many thanks bazz

As a guess Baz I'd go for injector failure......all to common on modern diesels.
I'd head for a diesel specialist near you for advice- there's a good chance any new injector has to be coded to the engine, which is a bore.
John :)

thanks for your reply john I wasn't sure if it was programed to misfire under high load to save wear on the engine it has only got 62 000 on the clock, runs superb without towing the van this is the first time towing with the sharan I had a tuaran before and that pulled no problem but the sharan is so low geared for economy I thought it may be in the ucu to cause a misfire if the engine is under to much load thanks again for your help bazz

Those pd engines are generally bomb proof, how is it running without the van on it?
Never heard of a misfire being created by the ecu to be honest, it could be due an egr clean though which can cause this type of fault.

Change fuel filter first and check no fuel restrictions from the tank?
