Hi,

This is for a friend who does not have internet access.

Before her house was built there was a wooden slotted fence in place.

Her neighbour has replaced this with two concrete posts with a single strand of wire and claims that this is a fence.

She does not dispute that the fence is not hers but her neighbours.

I have suggested that she gets the lone of a pig for a couple of weeks but this seems extreme.

Any suggestions / opinions.

Ask if they mind her replacing the wire with a proper panel

Put her own fence up next to the wire fence

I would hazard that technically as long as the posts were joined with at least 1 strand of wire this could be considered a fence. But that aside the neighbour doesn't have to have any kind of physical boundary unless it says so in the deeds.

in my deeds it actually specifies 4ft minimum and something like 3 strands off wire sufficient to contain livestock
and i live in a 100 year old mid terraced house that at the time off building had no surrounding farmland :D

Thanks for all the replies so far.

I suggested that she put up her own fence - but she is a old age pensioner and I think it is quite expensive for her.

I also suggested that she check her deeds to see if the builder wrote that it was her fence in the deeds.

My deeds state that if you have a red T on your map in the deeds then you need to maintain the fence.
