Thanks for raising that point, makes me realise again the awkward situation my Architect has put me in by refusing to answer questions.
I'm guessing the 'unexpected' on loft conversions often rears its head, and at these times questions need to be asked by the builder (he will want guidance - design is not his realm either I would have thought) - in that situation the Architect would be consulted.
