Decking Against a Fence

Hello!

I am planning a raised deck in my sloping garden. The deck will attach to the house at the level of the ground floor and will be held on posts about 80cm above the ground opposite the wall plate, to account for the garden slope.

I understand I don't need planning permission for this as it is (much!) smaller than 50% of the site, and because ground level is measured from where the deck attaches i.e. irrespective of the garden sloping away.

On one side, however, the deck will be against a party fence (installed 5 months ago, tanilised). My question is, therefore, what separation do I need between the fence and the deck? The deck will be level with (not below) the gravel boards, and I don't want to compromise either the deck or the fence by encouraging a damp atmosphere. Equally I don't want to have to leave to big a gap between the fence and the deck and then have to put up balustrades.

I don't plan to attach the deck to the fence in any way.

Thanks!
