conservatory footings

the builders dug a decent trench for the dwarf wall (500mm wide x 750mm deep approx) and now filled with concrete leaving about 250mm to the original garden level waiting for the crush n run / membrane etc to be laid. But... this trench is about 750mm short of the house on both sides? Any reason for this as it's not my line of work and don't want to look a tit if I have to ask them in the morning!
