Do you need to use cavity trays when using cavity lintels?

I was under the impression that a cavity lintel acted as its own cavity tray. But, whilst looking around at plastic weep vent options I've noticed that some diagrams seem to show a cavity tray over the top of the lintel. Why would this be required?

e.g. http://acier.thekeystonegroup.co.uk/lintels/standard-lintels/extended-range/weep-vents

I intend using full fill cavity insulation, in case that has a bearing.

Thanks

The type of lintel in that link will allow water to run down the back of it, to the inner leaf

Some boot lintels may not require a tray, but good practice would be to use one anyway in the course above the lintel

To be thorough you should use end caps as well, to prevent water running off the end of the lintel.
I don't think most builders would bother with either. Unless of course the plans specified it ...
