Hi,

We have a large brick vent in our kitchen which the previous owners had actually blocked up by plastering over - making me think it was a cavity vent but it turns out its not.

Its right where I was going to core drill a 6" hole out of to put in my extractor fan for the hob.

The question I have is what best, to remove it and try tidying the hole up and reduce the size of it with (something?) or could you successfully core drill into the middle of it (or is it likely to just crumble/not work out).

Any advice would be great.

thanks!

Is the external wall brick or rendered? If it was rendered I would knock it out, put your extractor through and then make the hole good with foam then when it's dried render the outside to make good again.
