Driveway sub base. Is this suitable.

Its a corner house. Imagine entry from side road with 3 metre wide double gates. Its not patio. The garden is at a raised level.

Setup is like out of kitchen door and patio area with 1 raised step to garden. It is this area after the step which i would like to use for parking my car.

Crushed bricks are ok as a bulk filler. However it is wise to use a more granular material for finishing and shaping the remainder of the hardcore layer.

This will not only fill in any gaps but will lend itself well to the shape of the drive, thus avoiding deep pockets of screeding sand.

The sand will need compacting as well as all the hard core layers.

On softer substrates (clay etc), larger hardcore units are better than granular material when starting off the hardcore layers.
