Garage Slab Reinforcement Questions

I am currently building my own new garage, the footings and below DPC block work are complete and the hardcore is in place but not yet compacted. I will sand blind before DPM.

I would like to use reinforcement mesh A142 has been recommended, I have been to the merchants to look at spacers (plastic pyramid ones) and they cost a fortune. Could I just use concrete brick quarters ? Or any other recommendations ?

The other thing is I am worried about damaging the DPM with the reinforcement and whichever spacers I use – when walking on it to barrow, tamp and spread the concrete ? Should I be worried ? Is there a way around this ?

That's what we do, i.e. rough lay 50mm of conc, fit mesh and cover with more conc.
