I have noticed our laminate wood flooring downstairs has become springy in areas. Also, some of the floor boards upstairs are springing up through the carpet and creaking more when you step on them. Could this be anything to do with water getting in anywhere? We have had loads of rain recently and wondered whether it was connected? There are no noticeable signs of water getting in except occasionally the wallpaper in the kitchen bubbles up - but this is in the extension and nowhere near the laminate flooring and floor boards ? But could it all be connected? I fear the problem could get worse if it is linked to water getting in - especially living in england! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

laminate expands when moisture is high
is there a 12mm expansion gap all the way round

1. lift the sub-area access trap and shine a light thro. Look for water and smell for moisture.
2. perhaps even go below and crawl the house looking for rotted joist tails or springy joists.
3.did you knock thro for your extension?
4. can you post a plan diagram of the areas of concern?
5. talk a little more about the bubbling wallpaper?

Hi thanks for the replies. There doesn't seem to be 12mm expansion gaps so it defo sounds like moisture is around? We didn't knock the extension thru, it has been added on the back of the house, but was already done when we moved in. What's the sub area access trap? The wall paper bubbles down the joins and usually seems to appear after a lot of rain. What about the upstairs floor boards? could it be connected? or maybe a leak from the upstairs bathroom?

it can be airborne moisture[dampness /humidity] causing the problem
you need to introduce an expansion gap if there is none all the way round including round any pipes or screws going through the flooring

Ref. the knock-thro is it linteled over? Has any damp appeared at either end of the lintel? Are cavity trays in place? What type of roof and flashing are above the extn?
The trap is a "trap-door" in the wooden ground floor, typically below the stairs.
You should post a diagram and pics if you want more precise info.

There are a load more Q's, but why not research previous posts on this subject?
