I've just moved into a new property and it has brought the usual issues which, having been in 6 weeks are starting to show up.

One of the biggest is damp in the corner of the lounge up to about 12 inches high and 6-12 inches across. I've repointed some external mortar above the damp proof course but can't honestly see that being the solution as the house is a 1950s build and has a cavity wall.

In an old house I had, I put in a damp course as there was wide scale damp downstairs but this new house's issue seems to be quite localised. The corner of the house is south west facing and definitely gets the worst of the rain, etc. so maybe is a contributing factor.

Any thoughts, help, potential solutions would be much appreciated....

While a lot of 50`s built houses are pretty damn solid, sometimes the attention to detail and the quality of the construction may be some what lacking. common problems are often such things as the cavity being bridged with mortar / broken brick, ties running downhill towards the internal skin. which could be causing your damp issues but may be somw what hard to diagnose.

Another cause could be "cold spots" if you have had a blwon cavity insulation that has formed some gaps then these gapped areas would be colder than the surrounding areas and more likely for condensation to form here causing the mould.

A picture of the elevation would be helpfull.
