Stone walls disaster

Following advice from numerous people I commenced attempting to remove thick sealant from interior stonework..no one warned me about possiblity if effloresces and have wrecked walls..they are dreadful.

Err, what your question? How do you know its effloresence? Could it be the residue of lime plaster? What is the thick sealer?

No troll joke...I will describe walls...for years had heavy coat sealant before I brought property that was total rip out. Following advice I tried to remove sealant which had been advised was varnish and maybe PVA glue so walls could breathe. Anyway left with some shiny bits, and on the rougher stone where product removed there is white crystalline areas...lots of.
