Hi, I have an old dining table which I am wanting to paint black with a high gloss finish. It is already covered in antique white Craig and Rose eggshell. I was wondering what the best method to do this would be either layering up a gloss paint or varnishing over a paint. I understand i'd have to do a lot of prep ie sanding between coats. Any advice on method and products would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you want a really high gloss you'll need multiple coats and wet abrade between coats. Big problem with black is it shows the tiniest spec of dust so you'll have to vacuum off after abrasion/before another coat.
There is also a product called gras a lacquer which can produce very good results but there is a lot of work involved and not to be entered into light heartedly! You will need to apply a dark grey undercoat for black and sikkens is a good choice for the black gloss, i think it would have to be oil based as a water based flawless finish is (imo) impossible.
