1. I'm finally getting around to painting the doors in our house which were dipped and stripped some time ago. I have Johnstone's trade aluminium based primer to prime them. Can I use water based satin straight over the aluminium primer? It is a light to mid grey Johnstone's trade colour satin, so adhesion is the main concern rather than colour.
2. I stripped a number of frames and architraves in the house many years ago but it was proving a rather tough job due to a dark brown base which I now believe was lead. My ex painted some of them impatiently, dulux gloss straight over the bare wood. This also needs rectified and painted with the grey water based satin. Some of the areas that get touched when walking through doors have worn parts back to the wood. Ideally, I do not want to completely strip them again for health reasons. Is it feasible to sand them down to remove the loosest parts then use something like Zinsser to seal it all in before painting with the water based satin wood? I have some 1-2-3 left over from sealing walls recently so thought this may do the job.
