does anyone have any experience of using an Oscillating Multi-Tool to remove old hard uneven window putty? I have a number of beautiful wooden Victorian casement windows with float glass in my house. I want them to look their best and I want to preserve the float glass as well.

Best to use a hacking knife, removing putty is what they're designed for.

I've seen it done with something like that but not tried it myself . It does require a certain amount of skill and a steady hand and isn't infallible . If you can I'd recommend getting the casements on a carpet covered bench to work on , makes the work so much easier. I find a chisel a good tool to use , not your most expensive as it helps to keep touching it up to a sharp edge and others swear by using a hot air gun to soften the putty although again I've never had much joy with that method.
