rusty gutters

Can anyone advise on the best way to repaint gutters which have rust marks on them they have been glossed before and also what to use on the inside.thank you

Hi this takes me back a bit :D as it was my job for months on end as an apprentice!
clean out all dust and debris from inside the gutters and apply a coat of black bitumen paint.
scrape away any loose flaking paint from the rusty areas then sand until the metal is exposed touch up the bare areas with red oxide primer and allow to dry.
make sure you also remove any flaking paint from the back of the guttering, so you will need a good dust mask and goggles!
sand the exterior of the guttering and remove all dust apply oil based undercoat and then gloss to finish. :D
 
Hi ando, if you are wanting to sand off the cast iron gutters and downpipes, try using the sanding mesh rather than sandpaper. It removes more material and blends in the high and low spots where you have flaking paint much quicker as it does not block up the mesh.

Available from the toolstation catalogue, about a fiver for a 5mtr roll.
