Hi

I've replaced some old 13AMP double sockets with new MK ones and have used a Martindale EZcheck socket tester to ensure they're ok.

However, on one of the sockets, the tester is showing an 'open earth >500 ohms' fault. I have re-wired it and the problem is still there. Both 3 core cables coming out of the wall are connected so I'm at a loss as to how to fix it - any ideas?

Many thanks

Are you assuming that it's on a ring just because it has two cables? It might be part way along a spur - in which case you have something else further along, also with no earth. :!: :!: :!: To find out, remove one cable (power off of course) and check for continuity: live to live, neutral to neutral and, just out of interest, earth to earth. :) :) :)

Thanks for your reply - I don't have a continuity checker I'm afraid. The cables run are in the eves of a loft conversion so I might crawl back there and see if something's not connected ... unless there's anything else you can suggest

If there is an earth fault there you may have some loose earth wires in some other sockets, possibly the ones you have replaced.
