I am sorry, I am sure this has been asked 100 times, and i am sure it is somewhere in the sticky...but I would rather make sure that I have this right from the horse mouth so to speak.

In brief, I need to replace an existing standard plastic ceiling rose with an IKEA light fitting. However, the IKEA fitting has nowhere for the earth to go...what should I do with it? As a side note, the switch itself is metal.

thanks for helping a dumb person!

If the light is of Class II construction (look for the square within a square symbol) then the earth is not required and be terminated in a connector block. If there is more than one earth from the ceiling then continuity must be maintained between them therefore they must connected together in a connector block.

Doing as ricicle suggests should ensure earth continuity down to the switch.

As an aside, check the earth connection is sound.
