I have a double power socket on the house side wall in the garage and am looking to complete a conversion.
How do i find out where the power from the garage socket is coming from (where the wires connect in the house) and can i spur from this socket?

If i can spur from it how many additional sockets will i be able to have? would i have to fit a junction box or have a new fuse box?

Things i am thinking about before i get someone in to complete the work. Dont worry, wouldnt consider doing it myself!!

The simplest method to find where the socket is powered from, is by switching MCB off or pulling fuses.
This will tell you what device powers the circuit, then all corresponding sockets that are attached to that circuit should also be dead.
By wary though it has been know on some circuits that two devices are protecting the circuit.

Using test equipment such as a continuity tester or multi-meter will help you follow the route of the circuit.
You can only take one spurred socket outlet per socket on a ring final circuit.
Unless the spur starts with a 13A fused connection unit, then you can take as many as you wish, but remember you will only be able to load that part of the circuit with a maximum of 13A.

The best option would be to extend the circuit rather than add on to it using spurs.

You may have a radial circuit though

Also you will require RCD protection either on additional work or at the board

Hope this helps!
