My electrical bits: Their purpose

R

I have acquired some electrical bits.

One is a cased transformer marked 12V 200W.

Now, I guess it would become part of some electrical installation in a building.

Can anyone say what this transformer is for? Output of course is AC.

Thanks.

More likely since not toroidal for a warning bell for example "Gents". Could even be to power toy trains. Used AC for points DC for engines. Even a simple door bell.

With quartz lighting it is important to reduce volt drop to minimum so unlikely designed for that unless very old.

I posted a picture to show transformer construction. Another transformer I have rated at 100W is specifically described as for lighting. It looks like a ballast inductor, long and slim but is a transformer.
