Hi,

I've installed 5 downlighters outside my house in the soffit.

I've used LEDs bulbs (sylvania 2.5watt equal to 25w halogen)

I would really like to install a timer switch to programme when they come off and on.

Everyone I've researched says not suitable for low voltage lighting. Can anyone recommend a timer switch for use with leds?

Thanks in advance

If your lamps run from 230V, they are not low voltage lighting. If your lamps are run from a separate Driver power supply, put the time switch in the 230V supply to the Driver power supply.

[pedantic] If his lamps run on 230v AC, they are low voltage. If below 50v AC then they are extra low voltage[/pedantic] ;)

Replaces existing light switch ... Not suitable for fluorescent lamps
Which is because it has no neutral, and needs a trickle of current through the lamp to work.

It won't be suitable for LEDs either.

That is a good point, the ones that are designed to replace a light switch will probably be designed to trickle some current.
If you are wiring the lights in from scratch, providing a neutral at the time switch should not be a problem. If this can be done, then there are plenty of timers available. The trick is not to look for timers for "lighting". These are examples that would work if there is a neutral at the timer:

Screwfix product code: 96608
Farnell order code: 987037
