Hi all

Need some thoughts please if possible.

I am putting in a new glass balustrade, base rail, hand rail, newel post etc. in an existing house with staircase already in place.

Floors are concrete slab with Oak flooring over them. Staircase has no string left to notch into the newel.

Seems like my only option is to (as well as screwing to end of string as best I can) drop a threaded rod through the oak and concrete and then up into the core of the newel as far as I can go.

Couple of questions -

a) does anyone have any better ideas than this?

and b) do you have any thoughts on what the best type of anchor is or would be i.e. Poly, PU, Epoxy, Vinylester,
styrene based / non styrene based..............etc. etc. etc. or does it
really not matter and just get the cheapest decent branded one I can get
from screwfix etc. dont have a clue what the difference is.

Many thanks for any help!!!!

to be honest i would contact the manufacturer off your system you choose for advice as length of components may not be long enough to reach the floor

thanks.

It will all reach. Newel and rest of parts are coming from Trade Stairs and will be cut to fit on site so will be more than enough. Has the 10mm groove for the glass already rebated into it but because of the unusual shape of the stairs we are getting our local glass company to make up the glass panel to fit so should be no problems with length of any components.

my first thought is all that purchase put onto that fixing in the concrete is more than you want on some threaded bar the type of resin is the least of your problems my second thought is it sounds like your spending a lot of money on this new balustrade ,so for the sake of safety and a good finish sounds like a new set of stairs that are designed to accommodate the new balustrade, would be worth a thought

Are you using the Richard Burbage FUSION range?
(if not ignore the rest of this post)

They do a floor install kit for the newel posts ref: NB320BFS

It has 4 fixings on the base - I would cut out the oak and fix the steel base direct to the concrete floor, use resin anchor bolts size to suit the bracket.

Use Fischer or Hilti and you will have no problems.
