We had our loft converted a year ago and in the last couple of months we noticed a slight ridge under the carpet, where one of the steel joists is situated. It's not very noticable to the eye but when you run your hand over the area you can feel a slight ridge. Is this something to worry about? Was wondering if it might be something to do with temperature changes and things expanding/retracting? All was signed off by buidling control and we were very happy with the work generally. Just wondering if we should get the guys back to have a look at it.
Many thanks.

Are timber joists supported off the steel.

Possible that the timbers have shrunk allowing the steel to then stand proud of the surface, *if* that is the case it should not be a major concern, just bad practice (the timbers should be installed higher so that this does not happen).

Thanks. No idea about timber joists, but possibly.. Might drop the builder a note to see if he can pop around at some point. I'm guessing if that is the case then there's not a lot they can do about it now!

Its a mistake he will make time and time again until someone pull him up for it. If you can lift the carpet you could smooth the bump out using some cardboard.
