Hi there. New to the forum and I suspect I might be on here a bit over the next couple of years as I have a lot of work to do on our latest project! Anyway, I am completely stumped and think I have over researched so have decided to ask for some clarity on my latest DIY conundrum!
We have recently bought a house that had ceramic tiles down on the kitchen floor, which is roughly 18m2. They were cracked, popped and lifting in places so I naturally ripped them up. When I did this it was clear why they were goosed as they had been laid directly onto a weyroc floor.
Three SDS drill attachments and two days later and I got them all up, they were well and truly welded on in places believe me! I have now however been left with a pretty rough surface that has a lot of small areas of old grout/cement left that just won't scrape off . . . . result, a very uneven surface.
My flooring options at present are to either tile again or put down a laminate. I have a shed load of 8mm TEGA laminate flooring that I could use, but this requires a very, very flat and true surface otherwise it lifts everywhere as I have find out once in my life already
If I am to tile again can I just put a ply down and not worry so much about it being exactly flat, just as long as there aren't any huge differences in the levels between sheets caused by the lumps underneath, i.e. as long as its 2 or 3mm hear and there at joints will it take a tile with a decent adhesive?
I have a load of 5mm ply boards, could I use these to tile onto, or could I lay a self levelling screed on these to then put the laminate on.
What should I do therefore? Self level screed onto the weyroc, ply then screed, just ply.
