I have a lawnmower on wheels (rather than a hover one). It was already on the lowest setting for grass. It went over a stone and made a loud noise. Now the motor is noiser and it is cutting the grass really really short, pretty much down to the soil. It is also not collecting the cut grass as effectively as it was.

Does anyone know anything about lawnmowers on here?

Cheers.

At best the blade has been bent. This throws the blade out of balance and so its noisy and is turning unevenly which is why it is scalping the grass. it also changes the air flow which is why it won't collect well.

The good news is a new blade is cheap and good for you mower anyway as it will be nice and sharp.

The bad news is that it's also likely that if the stone was submerged and well stuck it could have bent the crankshaft rather than just the blade. This is a major repair and will cost 200 quid ish probably.

So try a new blade first or at least take it to someone who can confirm one way or the other.

Thanks for that, makes sense. I will try a new blade, I don't think it did any more damage as I heard the stone go around the mower for a bit afterwards so I don't think it was massive. If the new blade doesn't work it will be a new mower, it was only a £60 cheap Flymo one.
