Puns aside, it shows the remarkable lengths and patience that those perverts who want to abuse children will go to. No one wakes up one day and thinks "I'll abuse a child today" they look to get themselves into positions where they have access to children.

The priesthood is a profession where there is the opportunity to be in a trusted position with little or no day to day oversight. The determination that these deviants will go to get themselves into that position is astounding, it takes years.
Absolutely no excuse for covering these things up, but identifying and stopping those determined individuals goes far beyond screening and DBS checks. A whole culture shift is required along with far greater oversight.
