Crack in bath how to glue?

Hi guys

I cracked my back when drilling holes for the taps. Any suggestions on how to glue this properly with something really strong. The crack is about 3 to 4 cm long

It isn't the length of the crack that is the issue so much as the width: if it is small and you will be able to force sides into each other as they dry then you can look at both epoxy resin and specialist acrylic glues. If you are going to be left with a larger gap when it dries then you need to look at an acrylic glue. You will also have to consider the colour of the glue as well.

The two main pieces of advice I would give you are:

- If the area where you are gluing will be affected by movement should the bath be full or empty (the bath sinks slightly when full) then half fill the bath to make sure that it is in the mid point of its movement before attempting your fix.

- You should end up with a slight raised edge from the glue when you have finished (you want to make sure you use enough to achieve this) which you will then have to sand back with a VERY FINE paper. Use one too abrasive and you will scuff the acrylic of your bath.

Depending on the crack you might get away with a fibreglass filler kit - just like car body kits but it dries white and can then be sanded and polished flat (with ascending grades of wet and dry) before a bit of Cif cream cleaner polishes it up.

Having said all that, if it's in an obvious location and it might flex as previous poster has said, you might be better taking the hit and getting a new bath - at least you'll know when its done it won't ever come back to haunt you.
