Sand-blasting service

I'm looking for someone with a sand-blaster who I can take a couple of sheets of glass along to to have them "frosted". I'm based in Barnet/North London and was hoping to find someone within half an hour...

Any suggestions?

Have you tried searching your local trade directory? Yellow Pags? Even a drive down to your nearest local industrial estate may prove fruitfull; many small engineering firms have blast cleaning facilities.

Also wondering if I should be blasting the inside or the outside of the door. I presume that the blasted surface will be harder to wipe down.

Why not just buy some glass that's already frosted?

I was hoping to save some money. A shower enclosure with frameless frosted glass seems to be a bespoke-only kind of thing that costs from £1200. I thought that buying a £500 enclosure and then blasting it myself might save about £500 or so, but it's looking like it's not going to happen.

That's a good spot, but I was aiming for a design on the frosting that would make it look more deliberate and less old-fashioned. The other thing is that I'm constrained to 900x900 side-entry.

The sort of thing I was originally after is http://www.hotglassdesign.co.uk/textured_glass.htm, but that was over £2000.

I thought that I could get some circles of sand-resist masking scattered about on the shower panels and then get it blasted - so the effect would be of frosted with funky spots!

I then found this: http://www.folioflipper.com/1268658443/ which isn't as nice, but still vaguely stylish.

Having said that, I should seriously consider those options you found.

Have fitted a frosted film on a shower door, very hard to tell the difference if done correctly and a lot cheaper.

Do a search on Frosted or Decorative Window Film

or you can even design your own patterns, here's one of them > http://www.windowfilm.co.uk/ComputerCutDesigns.aspx have done this when I'm making lead stained glass, watch the video on the link for some of the idea, you can have any colour as well

Just to let you all know - I've place an order with AquaBliss for a special-order frosted glass frameless enclosure. So thanks for that recommendation (or maybe I should reserve judgement until it's in!)
