can i render over old render

on the out side of my house i have old cracked render but not blowen and also painted can i add a new skim of render over this if i rough it up

Not as simple as just re rendering, you will have to find what is causing the cracking as this may come though again

its an old house built in 1875 there are no cracks on the inside i think lime should of of been used but a 10 years ago i filed the cracks and only one grew again

Technically you should knock it off and re-do it in lime.

Agree with peaps but to save time and money, the job won't last as long though, use a stipple coat then re-render.
