May be a quick and easy one here but I have seen what looks like tiles placed on the front of rendered houses to form patterns, what is in fact used here and how are they fixed? Basic black tile example picture below View media item 60365

Hard to tell from your pic. Typically, the lozenges were terra-cotta job lots for a number of local houses.

Sometimes they would be shaped from a hard tiles similar to a Quarry tile.

In twee Edwardian elevations they might even be colourful "telling a story" tiles, similar to those ghastly modern back splashes you might sometimes see.

There are two terrific books about Victorian period details, and Edwardian period details, by The Period Property Assn.

Thanks Dan, I have just seen them on a few houses in various patterns and as we have an area to render on the front of the house we had been considering something like this rather than just plain render, thought it may add a little character to the place, also some houses in the area have them so looking for inspiration ;)
