The connection between the toilet and cast iron waste in our farm washroom has developed a slight leak which looks to be caused by perishing of the rubber boot around the collar of the cast pipe. Are these rubber boots still available or can I cut the collar off and use some other means of connection - a flexi perhaps?

You can cut the collar off and fit a connector but not a standard finned connector used for PVC systems. You want a connector to suit the old cast iron. The problem with cast iron is there are different versions with differing diameters. I think you would find the brochure from Multikwik handy as it lists the various types in a table. See page 40 in the link. See page 41 for what to measure. I would cut off at the wall so you get the fall needed.

Note your offset was not really suitable! Going uphill is asking for trouble but you have obviously got away with it.

Thanks for the tips. BTW the current installation is not as a result of my handiwork ;)
