our central heating stays on on all day unless we turn the boiler off, also the h/w will omly get hot if we turn the room thermostat up and have the heating on to!!! does this sound like our control box is knackered??

I think it may be a motorised valve fault, but I'm not sure. Assuming you have a 3 port valve? I don't think it could happen like your symptoms on an S Plan
Can any of the experts say how a 3 port causes the problems the OP has. I'm dying to know too!
