Hi all,

Last night my boiler made an electrical sound and would then not ignite for the central heating.

Also a burning smell was present. I've traced the burning smell to the gas valve location shown here-> http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/ilex150/media/Boiler2.jpg.html

The Boiler is a Glowworm Hide away 50 GC 41-313-15 plate here-> http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/ilex150/media/Boiler1.jpg.html

The fuse hasn't blown.
The pump Still works
The pilot light functions.
The gas is on (see above)

Before this issue the boiler has worked fine.

Do you think this will be just a straight gas valve swap? ( for which I will be using a proffesional)

Also I see the gas Valve for this boiler is hard to find although there are some on ebay. From what info i can find other types of gas valve could be fitted if requiered.

Many Thx for help

I know of no alternative for that gas valve. Have you done all the electrical tests on the gas valve? Firstly check for 230v at the valve and then check the valve windings. It does sound though, that the valve has failed. Tests are to be 100% sure. I would have thought gas valve would still be available, rather than taking a chance on E bay.

That area looks like a supressor wired across the supply to prevent interference.

Thx for quick reply.

Haven't done any electrical test yet.

Just worried that the problem might be indirectly assosiated with the gas valve and if I get a new one fitted it might go again.

thx for the link although the item is greyed out so I assume it isn't availiable.

Regards

What voltage do you get then>

He means measure the resistance of the gas valve solenoid.

Tony

I measured the resistance at the same place ( if thats correct) and it was 1.

thx
