Hi All,

Wonder if you can help. I currently suffer from screaching pipes when the hot water tap is running to fill the path. It doesn't start straight away but after a minute it makes an awful sound.
sometimes running the sink tap at the sametime can stop the noise but not always.

the bath tap is a mixer feeding an over head riser rail shower but having a shower with the hot tap turned full doesnt cause it, purely when running a bath.

the boiler is a potterton and it is an open vented system with a hw tank. Can anyone help please?

Possibly requires a new diaphragm in the float valve for the cold water cistern, usually in the loft.

thanks for the reply. There are two plastic tanks in the loft is one of these the cistern you refer to?

thanks

Yes, run the hot water tap until it starts then whilst the tap is running, the float valve can be identified.

just wanted to say thanks, the ball cock valve appears to be the culprit for the tank feedingthe HWC.

Many thanks
