We have a megaflo unvented water heater in our apartment, and it started dripping water from the pressure relief valve some time ago. This got progressively worse, to the point where we called out a plumber and he replaced the pressure relief valve.
This solved the problem for a few months, then it started doing it again.
Ive reset the air gap on this thing several times, and it has no effect. The timer is broken on the heater, so it is either turned on or off. This was ok until it started leaking, so the heater is now constantly heating water, as if you left a hot tap on.
Its now at the point where, it is literally like leaving a tap running, so is costing us a fortune in electricity.
If it is turned off, it will continue to run until all the hot water is gone, and carries on flowing just as much when the water is cold out of the valve.
If we turn the mains supply off, the valve will stop leaking, is this a suitable short term solution to allow us to have hot water throughout the day without constantly using 3kw? (with the assumption that you would turn the mains supply back on to use the water, so just turning it off when out of the flat).
The other concern we have, is that with this valve open constantly and so much, it is now a problem with the water chalking the tundish up to the point where it can go outside and twice now we have come home to a soaked carpet.
We have a plumber due to come out hopefully next week, but thought I would ask on here for any clues as to what the problem may be.
Ive read through a couple of threads, and all Ive found is water intermittently dripping, not pouring out like ours.
