Hi I have a Mexico Boiler which I am told is somewhere in the region of 20 years old.

Basically, the pilot light does not stay on. I can get a spark and if I hold in the button a blue flame appears, until I release the button.

I had a gas chap look at it and basically advised it was a new boiler, as the gas value is faulty but won't be available as a part anymore.

When I say look at it, I mean bent down opened eyes and said mmmm looks like the gas valve is faulty. No static checks whatsoever.

Having read other posts we could be looking at the thermocouple, pilot and the valve, probaly in that order? Please advise?

I have contacted a Honeywell and it seems I can buy a V4600A 1023 valve quite easily.

Can anyone confirm if I am being a bit paranoid that this should / could be an easy fix?

Should I just get another gas engineer?

Get another service engineer, he will tell you that you either need a service or a new thermo-couple

Your bloke was a bullshi**er.. If the valve is required(I doubt it) then there are loads and they're cheap as chips. Good boiler though.

Hmm. I have the same boiler and the guy who services mine told me to keep it going for as long as possible. Apparently what they lack in efficiency they make up for in reliability and ease of repair.

Thermocouple goes every now and again on mine (same symptoms that you have).
