Hi,

Bolier failed and when cover taken off, noticable water marks (brown) around top of boiler casing at flue fixing point. Completely rusted arouond flue ring. Water had leaked onto fan and caused water damage.

Fan had failed, so new fan fitted, 7 days later, same problem and fan dies. Upon inspection, new fan has water damage and fan casing has considerable brown water marking.

It hasn't rained at all since duration of problems. Condensate pipe does remove water but noticed excessive amount at one point, much more than usual.

Any ideas? As it hasn't rained, I assuming this is condensation forming in the horizontal flue and falling back into the boiler. I'm reluctant to fit another fan until the cause of water is known.

Any guidance or things to check would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Firstly, water leaks from flue joints inside a boiler indicates a failed seal.(may have been poorly fitted) All condensate should flow back to the boiler to be collected in the heat exch and out via the trap.
This should have been addressed before a new fan was fitted.
If you did it then its only you to blame, but if a RGI completed the work then call him back to fix it.
You should NOT be fixing a flue problem.

This is caused by the Flue elbow that comes off the top of the boiler. The inside in the old flue's were made of Aluminium and the condensate just eats through it, the new elbow is plastic inside. You need to change both the fan and the flue elbow (just make sure is a new one which is plastic inside Part No 5000277)
