Hello everybody,

I am in the process of buying a house that has solar water heaters on the roof. It is west facing and therefore has 2 collectors. I estimate the installation is about 10years old.

Firstly is there a service that I can get carried out on this?

I wired one of these up for my AM2 exam but can't remember the process of how they work.
Am I right in thinking that the solar heater system works independently of the h/w system.
If the collector temp > tank temp it runs the pump to heat the tank water (up to the designated tank temperature).

If you use the boiler for h/w it looks for the temperature of the tank and uses boiler to heat the water, regardless of what the solar system is doing?

The property is a 3 bed semi and I am going to rewire it and will get new c/h installed. The reason I ask these questions is so I can incorporate the wiring whilst I carry out the rewire. I can't remember what the setup but with either be Y or S plan.

Thanks kindly,
Chris Lee.

The wiring of the heating/solar system is independent of the house wiring. If its been done properly then it does not need changing.

Best to leave the solar to someone who has done the course!

Please tell us the make and model of the solar and the boiler.
