I reseated the cold tap in the bathroom basin a few days ago to stop it dripping, but it has suddenly decided to act peculiar. It only gives either a dribble or runs at full speed, and is almost impossible to regulate. I've had the headgear apart and cleaned out gunk, and changed O ring around the plunger, but no good. New headgear ain't expensive but can I fix the existing or has it gone past the point of repair? BTW this is on mains pressure as we have a combi.

Thanks in advance.

sounds like a sticking/worn jumper in the tap insert.
May be easier to fit new insert.

tap reviver kits might be useful.

google it.

it can be a pain to match the heads etc but it is possible. a local plumber's merchant may be your best bet.

Thanks for your replies. The taps are by Heritage and are 3/8. Guess what, they don't do that size any more......
