Hope someone can help.

We are building an extension with a flat roof - roughly about 27sqm. We've had a quote for GRP of £1200 with a 10 yr guarantee. This seems very cheap - does anyone have any opinions?

We've also had a quote for a epdm system which is coming out £1944.

We are on a tight budget so the GRP seems the better option at the moment but we dont want to go for the cheap option and then find we have lots of problems.

We are also not sure which is the better system to go with GRP or the EPDM.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Your going to get a lot of different suggestions here, every one has their favoured roof system.
Ive done, pour and roll, torch on, glass fibre and epdm.
My choice would be epdm.
As said others will be along later stating their preferences, at the end of the day, if the materials are all good quality it relies very much on the fitters and how good a job they do.
All flat roofing materials are good in their own right, but only if correctly installed.
Ive seen some good roofs in felt, epdm and glass fibre, and Ive also seen some real shoddy work.

EPDM = £72 M2 Fitted Material cost - £5-£6 a M2 or lets be generous and say £10.

GRP = £44m2 Fitted Material cost who knows without seeing the product.

Asphalt = £45 M2 Fitted. Material cost £14.50 M2.

HT Felt = £38 M2 Fitted. Material cost £9.00 M2

GRP i wouldn't touch with a barge pole, the rest as mentions depend on quality of install and a bit of maths.

Hi,are the prices for laying the deck as well,if so the grp quote is way to low the epdm is about right going by the rubber roof chap on here not so long ago he quoted £60 per sqm.
I prefer Grp if well laid same as any system its how well its laid and how much experience the installer has of the product.
For full peace of mind go for a BBA system that comes with a independent insurance backed guarantee for both labour and materials.But then costs go up

the price is just for the GRP - we have done the deck ourselves.

Laying the rubber I found easier than the woodwork. Cost me, for a similar sized roof, about £500 for the materials.

We are Firestone aproved contractors and GRP suppliers Installers there is no comparison GRP if done correctly will last for years you need at least 2 layers of 450 matt I will only use EPDM on industrial contracts does not matter how well it is fitted it will look rough after a year or so. EPDM is purchased for £6.00 M2 cost of GRP £50.00 M2 fitted you can do the GRP yourself pick up the materials from us free training

Whats happening in the 2nd photo (epdm roof )

Looks like the rubber has been pulled back, and a bucket of water thrown over it, ?

We were asked to look at a leaking roof, the water is just a puddle the joint was just lifted back it was supposed to have been laid in one piece.
The operative who had done the work for a large window company had been a milkman done 1 days training in EPDM then let loose on an old ladys roof she was charged over £4000 for 60M2 and it leaked from day 1 she never got her money back guarantee worthless.

Thats the type of guys that give the trade a bad name, no pride taken in their work.

It looks like it wasnt glued down, was there a splice tape joining the 2 pieces, and was it done correctly.

Looks like no 3"" seam tape was used IMO.

Yet another so called Flat Roofer who thinks they can fit EPDM and who clearly knows nothing about fitting it. No care and pride in the work whatsoever.
