I've been roofing my Shed with torch on felt. My problem is I've got all but the final strip on and I am unsure about how to put it on without cocking it up. The first layer was a nightmare and ended up with lots of little creases in it. Is there a trick to doing this or is it a case of going at it as per normal?

Thanks in anticipation

Peter :)

Lay your strip out in place then roll one end back to half way or a bit further, rolling to a diameter of about 6 to 10 inches. Stand on the loose bit (to stop the whole thing moving around) and hold the roll from moving with either a scraper or your gloved hand. Torch under the roll in front of you and slowly roll over your molten bitumen, pressing down and forwards firmly, thus keeping the laid section wrinkle free. Loose fitting canvas lined rubber gloves are good for this because when you torch your hand you can throw them off quickly. Don't stand on the warm bit you've just laid, so you either need to wait til it cools, or move to the "unlaid" side and work pulling the roll towards you as you torch. This will torch your forearm as well as your hand. The same applies when you get to the ends - wait til it cools if you need to stand on it, laying the opposite end while you wait. If you're trying to lay a top strip which is half on one slope and half on the other then it's almost impossible to torch it properly and it'll almost certainly wrinkle. Turn it at right angles and do strips up and down over the ridge instead.

Good advice above, laughed at the throwing the glove off, manys the time

As said, preferable to do individual strips, nail the head then put a ridge cap through.
