Hi

Just finished a tiling job and only thing left to do is apply a bead of silicone sealant around the gap between the wall tiles and the bathtub.

Have read that bath needs to be filled with water - a few questions on this:-

1. Should bath be filled with hot or cold water?
2. If hot, should water be left for e.g. 30 mins so that bath expands from heat of water?
3. Should silicone be applied with water still in the bath?
4. Once silicone has been applied, should the water be run out of the bath, or left in?
5. If water is to be left in, how long should it be left in for?

Hi, Spiidey,

1 Cold water
2 N/A
3 Yes
4 Leave in
5 Overnight.

The point of the water (I tend to fill 3/4 full) is the weight pushing the bath down so that when the silicone has set if there is any movement it is to compress the seal, rather than if done empty to pull away from the seal when a person and water are in the bath, hope that makes sense :D

Don't forget that if you have young children then the door should be locked to stop anyone climbing into the bath.
