best/usual way to tile window sill?

Hi. I have two options to tile my window ledge, shown in the pics below - either I extend the brick pattern, or lay the tiles perpendicular to the window. Is there a "normal" way to do it? I'll have a piece of chrome trim in front.

Given the trim piece breaking the grout lines either way will be fine, and in a month or two you wont even notice the lay out.

grout residue looks very heavy, going to need a lot of polishing.

I'd go with the first pic, personally.
