when should i put preservative on

hi have just had new fence put up and have been told many
different things ...... :confused:
some say wait a year before i preserve and stain my fence others
say do it as soon as possible it is tanalised ..
have also been told it will run off if i try and dont wait a year ....
what do you think ...

New timber fresh from the supplier can still remain 'moist' for a while. Good to let it dry out for a few weeks and shrink a bit, but ultimately it doesn't really matter. Leaving it til spring will do no harm if it's tanalised. Likewise you could give it a once over now, and then again come spring and you'll be sorted for the next 2-3 years if you use good stuff like cuprinol shed n fence.
