Hi people.
We have inherited some lovely west facing oak french doors that get a lot of weather. They appear to have been coated with an acrylic varnish that has deteriorated and is allowing moisture through causing some discolouration around the double-glazed window panes and some staining around some of the joints.
Some people have said, and I have read somewhere, that we can just leave them and they'll go silver/grey but not rot because they're made of oak. others say the opposite and we should sand off the old varnish and re-coat them. If we should re-coat them what would you recommend? We like the colour of the natural oak and don't want to stain it with another colour.
thanks.
Steve
