Garden wall 5ft

I need to build a garden wall approx 5ft high.I plan on finishing this with render,anyone know the regulations on wether it should be 2 courses tied in or would a single course be sufficient?

regardless of thickness, a wall that high over any distance will require pillars.

i personally would only recommend you build a 225mm thick wall with 450 x 450mm pillars, unless the wall has some unusual changes of direction.

if it is a flat slab then definitely pillars.
 
Have to agree, pillars are a must. If the wall is to be rendered then concrete blocks would be prefered and pillars no further apart than every 3 meters. It might also be wise to include expansion joints to one side of every pillar to avoid cracks.

No need for horrible piers if its a 9" wall

horrible?

at 9" thick and only 5' tall, pillars could be regarded as mildly extreme.

i think that they will benefit the wall structurally as well as aesthetically.
