Currently building a patio, need a bit of advice.
1) Dug out 10cm of soil for hardcore base. Due to the soil being clay based, I now have a swimming pool - water wont drain down to water table. Any advice before putting in hardcore.
2) Can I use building hardcore (brocken bricks, tiles etc.), and then put pea gravel on top of this, and compact it with a wacker plate.
3) Where I am laying the new patio, there is a manhole cover, any advice on how to raise this.
Any help or advice on these will be greatly appreciated

not sure if it's any help, but as far as point 3 goes, and depending on how the manhole is made up.... If it's brick you could maybe add a course or two of more bricks to the level you want. Or you can buy prefab concrete rings of differing heights, then get a manhole cover which has a kind of tray on it and so will allow you to have the same covering (not sure what the specific name/term for these are), you see them on block driveways where there's a manhole cover.

any hardcore is fine

pea beach is a no no, it wont compact. You will find it far easier and get a better result if you simply backfill with mot type 1 and do away with the hardcore as well.

with regards the manhole we usually do the following:-

take of haunching around cover and frame and leave in place loose (safer and stops waste going down.

lay patio up to and aound it. you can now set the frame to suit the level of the paving, by either removing or adding courses of bricks.
